The Anxiety Backdrop to My Life
As a neurodivergent wild hearted being who hasn’t quite fit into what the world wants for my 48 years, anxiety has at many times formed the backdrop to my life, remained unexamined, unexpressed, unconsidered. Only in the last 10 years or so have I noticed anxiety and actively to worked with it. I have a lot of experience with anxiety and overwhelm. It’s swamped my life and made `normal’ tasks very difficult many years. I have spent many years unravelling the effects of living with undiagnosed autism and trying to fit myself in. Wow, it can be a lot.
The Magic Relationship – Intuition and Anxiety
So as I wrote in When You Keep Feeling Lost: A Guide for Highly Sensitive People, intuition to me is one of the most important assets in my life, and it despite overwhelm and feeling desperately lost at times, I can say my relationship with my intuition is very strong now. Anxiety and overwhelm still happen and probably always will. But I have come to understand many of their patterns and come to understand that some of these patterns are patterns of shedding that the body-mind goes through normally. Some are linked to the seasons. It’s fascinating and liberating.
When we’re in touch with our intuition, we can be free of anxiety. In that space, I find anxiety has subsided or even dropped away completely. There may still be some worries lingering but mostly there is perspective and less fear, and hold both the fear, and the intuition. Anxiety and intuition are linked in this way. The more free of anxiety, the more our intuition can flourish. The more our intuition can flourish, the more our anxiety and its sources can change in my experience.
This is important to think about because the land and seas are being destroyed and are constantly under pressure and threat. And that creates anxiety even if we don’t think about it. Many things in our modern way of living foster anxiety.
It’s With Intuition We Hear, We See the Land, this Wild Spirit Woman
But, when we’re in our intuition, then we can really hear the land, hear the trees and see what what happens when that touches us in the middle of heart. We have a stillness inside and we know how to listen and see in a way you can’t teach from a book.
We can touch into the renewing power of life.
This is the natural anxiety therapy of land connectedness.
It’s magic.
Intuition is very important when connecting with the land, it’s at the centre of everything I would say in my own experience.
The Land is Sacred
With our knowing and intuition, we can feel that.
So when we come together and share our story this sacredness, our love for the land, for its many beings, for the waters, for the air and trees… this makes a special magic.
And in that magic we can feel some renewal, some revival of the spirit that helps us feel lighter and more grounded and more wonderful in our days.
And in it we might find some magic to inspire our own actions to help make things better, as well as seeing into and honouring what we are already doing.
This is why I’ve created “Becoming the Land” story and ritual circle. Here we share our story around intuition and other topics and participate in some small practice together.
Together we create a space of deep listening where we can each be heard.
